It’s been my observation that those people who are competent, yet have a high likeability quotient are much better employees, managers and leaders. As a self-employed business owner, entrepreneur, solo professional or individual ask yourself this question. How likeable am I? Do I have a high likeability quotient?
How come this is important? Your life and business is an echo. What you send out comes back.
Likeability Quotient: An Observation
It’s been my observation that in business and life, people usually rise to your expectations—if they like you. If you have built solid relationships with your employees and friends and they genuinely like and respect you, they will work hard and be their best.
Whether you are a self-employed business owner, entrepreneur, solo professional or an individual seeking greater personal or business growth how you are perceived by others has a profound influence on what you receive back from them. This is your echo.
A Likeability Quotient Story
As a personal growth coach one of the things I have observed is that to move forward and upward likeability is a key factor. For example, I had a business coaching situation where the self-employed business owner had to make a decision between two trusted employees as to who to promote.
In terms of knowledge both were qualified. One of them had a deeper knowledge base than the other. But, the other was much more likeable. In fact, his likeability quotient among his fellow employees was quite high.
The owner selected the more likeable employee for the promotion. What was the tipping point in his decision? He would rather have a competent person who gets along and builds solid relationships than a competent person who may present challenges to his relationships.
Why Is Your Likeability Quotient Important?
A great deal of our success and happiness will depend on our likeability quotient. In business performance coaching I cannot emphasize enough how important likeability is. You may be running a small business but if your likeability quotient is small you will be more likely to have more obstacles, burnout and fail.
And, much of business performance coaching centers around increasing the client’s likeability quotient. I think everyone would agree that the more likeable we make ourselves the more likely it is for our businesses and lives to be smoother, happier and more successful.
After all, especially in a small business, it is hard to increase performance when people don’t like you. Success is getting what you want. Happiness is wanting what you get. Too often I see people getting success but they are not happy with what they got. Maybe they have experienced great small business growth or small business success but they are not happy.
Most of the time, if they are not happy, their likeability quotient is small. Their friend and acquaintances are in their lives strictly because of business and not because they truly want to be around them.
A High Likeability Quotient Kills Loneliness
We have all heard the phrase; “It is lonely at the top.” The truth is if you have a high likeability quotient that is not true. With a high likeability quotient you have had the support of the solid relationships you have built with others to lift you along the way.
And, with a high likeability quotient you will never experience loneliness because people value and like you and want to be in your life
