Change And Happiness

Very often I have come across in my own life and that of others a conflict between change and happiness. We know that we have to embrace change yet we are unhappy.

Samuel Johnson observed, “He who has so little knowledge of human nature as to seek happiness by changing anything but his own disposition will waste his life in fruitless efforts and multiply the grief which he purposes to remove.” Most people want to change the world to improve their lives, but the world they need to change first is the one inside themselves. It is your choice—one that some are not willing to make.

Do you want more happiness? True happiness is an inside job. Discover on the inside where you can change and what you can change. If that is not going to be sufficient remember the words of George Bernard Shaw. “The people who get on in this world are the people who get up and look for the circumstances they want and if they can’t find them, make them.”

Only when you change on the inside will you be willing to get up and make your circumstances and your life better.
