Small business help comes in many forms. Very often the business owner looks to outside sources. This is good. But, very often the source for greater growth and satisfaction does not come from the outside but from within.
This morning I was thinking about the phrase, “getting over the hump.” When you start a new business you have to overcome many obstacles. At some point, you feel you are “over the hump.” You say to yourself, “I am going to make it.” Or, are you?
As a personal business coach I have worked with many small business owners who got over the hump with much different results. Once you are over the hump one of two things will happen.
You are poised for greater growth.
Or, you are prepared for a slide into mediocrity and failure.
Think about this. Many owners have the perseverance and tenacity to build a small business to where it is profitable. The building of the business and the challenges that come with birthing a new enterprise excites them and engenders passion in what they do.
Now they have arrived. They are “over the hump.” When a business gets “over the hump,” the skills of maintaining, managing and growing what has been created become critical.
But, the owner is not focused on these. His skills and passion are in growing the business. He has very little focus on managing his small business after getting it over the hump. This is the stage where a management type help for small business is needed.
And, if is not addressed bad things will happen.
The result is that the business he has created loses momentum and starts a slide into mediocrity or even failure.
How do you combat this? There is a great deal of small business help. But, as a business owner you must grow in your thinking. Your best small business marketing strategy is to focus on your improvement.
After all, the business will be only as good or as large as your thinking.
Always work on putting yourself together.
You may have gotten over a hump in business. But, the next hump to get over for greater growth and prosperity is “You”.
Too often the focus is put on external factors. Put the focus on you.
When you make it a priority to put yourself together to be more in your thinking, skills and actions, your world and business will come together.
Only then will you truly be “over the hump” and continually moving along your path to greater success and fulfillment.
I invite you to share your thoughts and experiences with “getting over the hump.”
